Our History

Welcome to Maple Cove Bed & Breakfast in Southern Michigan. When Mark and I purchased this stately beauty in 1994 we were able to visualize what it had been, a working farm and summer home to the Fruehauf family, moving on to all that it could be for us as a family. We imagined a place to raise our children, build memories and foster our dream of turning the space, one day, into a B&B.

The Process

The work was hard and long, as it always is with a 100+ year-old house. It took us 2 years to get the house livable and that was ¾ of the house, the other ¼ we closed off for storage and puppies. Then the children grew up and started their own lives. In 2012 our journey to become a bed and breakfast slowly began. Once again, the work was hard, but the outcome was the dream we had imagined. It took us until 2014 to finish the renovations and start our application process with the township, and low and behold the fruits of our labor of love were realized, and we opened in 2016. Our goal when creating the space was to provide a peaceful retreat to reconnect, recharge and relax. With that as our mission, we made the hard decision to be adult only (21+), so that we could provide parents a place to unwind, friends, a chance to reconnect, and couples a chance to have uninterrupted time with each other. Come enjoy the peace and quiet at our modern farmhouse bed and breakfast!

With 14 acres to play with, we continue to have ongoing projects from our gardens to all the ideas left on our bucket list; you never know what we will think up next.

We hope, when you visit us, you will feel all the joy, love and thought we put into each suite and the August House to bring you a space that fosters a peaceful environment, a quiet getaway, the joy of reconnecting with loved ones, family and friends, and a chance to refresh your soul.

We hope to meet you soon,

Jan & Mark

The August House

The August House, formerly the caretaker’s house when the Fruehaufs resided in the main house, is a 2-bedroom, 1100-square-foot, stand-alone house just steps away from the main B&B. This is the perfect space for those guests looking to stay a bit longer or for those guests wanting a bit more privacy. 2 or more nights booking please.

This fully renovated house has an open-concept full kitchen, dining room, family room with a 3-sided fireplace, 2 bedrooms (one king, one queen) large master bathroom with a 2-person soaking tub, double sink vanity and large stand-alone shower, and 1/2 bath off the laundry room. The study offers a quiet place to catch up on emails or do some writing. It also has a laundry room. In the summer, the front porch offers a wonderful spot to relax and unwind.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
