When people first visit Maple Cove, they often come for the peace and quiet — the gardens, the veranda, the greenhouse. But what they don’t always expect is how quickly they’ll fall in love with our farm-yard friends.

Over the past few years, our little barnyard has grown into a happy (and sometimes mischievous!) family. There’s Pearl, King, and Tigger — our gentle horses who love to watch guests stroll past their pasture. Hamish and Finnegan, our miniature donkeys, are always ready to greet you with curious noses and the occasional bray. And then there are the goats — Lulu and her playful kids, Millie, Sage, Daisy, and Ivy, Lulu’s Mom Rain, and our other 2 babies, Fern & Hazel — who keep us smiling every single day with their antics. Add in our flock of chickens, and mornings here start with fresh eggs and a chorus of clucks.

We’ve always planned for Maple Cove to become a little farm, and it’s turned into one of our greatest joys. Guests often tell us how grounding it feels to simply stand at the fence, stroke a velvety nose, or laugh at the goats as they climb, leap, and tumble about. These simple moments have a way of reminding us to slow down, breathe deeply, and delight in the small things, unless you touch the electric fence, then it really lifts your, well, everything, so don’t touch it..

While our Main House will be retiring soon, The August House remains our little slice of Heaven and the animals are very much part of Maple Cove’s future. They’re part of the story we’re writing every day — one filled with fresh air, gentle company, and a touch of country charm.
